- [18.0]? WEATHER
- In Wacht Am Rhein II weather affects are represented by ground and atmospheric conditions. Ground conditions affect how well units can move during a turn. Atmospheric conditions affect the ability to observe units and will affect the availability of airpower for both sides.
- [18.1.0]? Weather Determination
During the Weather Determination phase of each GT the US player consults the Weather Table to find both the Ground and Atmospheric conditions. For each condition, a d10 is rolled and any modifiers for that particular turn are applied. During Night turns atmospheric condition is ignored; the ground condition remains the same for any Extended Night Activity.
If players agree the historical weather, as shown on each side's Turn Record Chart, may be used.
- [18.2.0]? Ground Conditions
- There are four ground conditions in the game: Normal, Snow, Thaw, and Frozen. Adjustments to a unit's movement allowance due to weather are always made before the consideration of any other effect (supply, fatigue, etc).
- [18.2.1]? Normal
- Normal represents sufficiently dry and packed snow, along with bare ground. Use normal movement allowances and terrain costs.
- [18.2.2]? Frozen
- Frozen is the best condition for off-road movement during the battle. It is a combination of frozen ground and sufficiently dry and packed snow. Increase the MA of any unit not using Road Movement by one MP. All soft ground is ignored.
- [18.2.3]? Snow
- Snow isn't good for movement. The movement allowance of a unit is reduced by two unless it moves only along primary or secondary roads.
- [18.2.4]? Thaw
- The worst ground condition is Thaw. The movement allowance of a unit is reduced by three, unless it moves only along primary roads. Three is added to the MP cost to enter Soft Ground (see the TEC). One is added to all Ammo Depletion die-rolls for both sides.
- [18.3.0]? Atmospheric Conditions
- There are three atmospheric conditions in the game: Clear, Partial Overcast and Overcast. Atmospheric conditions affect observation (see 8.0)
- [18.3.1]? Clear
- There are no adverse effects on visibility or the availability of Air Points to either side.
- [18.3.2]? Partial Overcast
- Visibility is unaffected, however only one-half of the available Air Points are received by each side.
- [18.3.3]? Overcast
- Maximum visibility is two hexes and no Air Points are available.
